Interdental Brushing

As a result of improved oral hygiene and fluoride in toothpaste, more people are now keeping their own teeth well into old age, in comparison to previous years when many people had extractions for minor issues as it was the only option. In order to continue maintaining healthy teeth and gums, a regular regime of brushing twice a day every day and cleaning in between your teeth must be a part of your daily routine.

The major cause of tooth decay and gum disease is a build-up of plaque and bacteria. The formation of plaque is a continuous activity and cannot be stopped. However, whilst brushing controls the amount of plaque building up on the surfaces of your teeth, it doesn’t reach the surface in between your teeth, hence why interdental brushing at least once a day is essential.

Here at Killay Dental Health Centre we recommend using Mini Vision interdental brushes where needed, which we sell here at the practice, but other brands are also fine, or floss for those tighter areas. We also recommend using an electric toothbrush rather than a manual one. Our hygienist Hannah is always on hand to give friendly advice about the best way to look after your teeth and gum health.
